THE MEANING

Qurrah

The name Qurrah comes from the Arabic root associated with coolness, comfort, and tranquility. It is beautifully expressed in the phrase Qurratu 'Ayn ("coolness of the eyes"). In Arabic, it describes how the eyes feel when a sense of profound peace and joy settles in a person's heart. By contrast, "the heat of the eyes" evokes tears born of sorrow, grief, or distress.

Why I Use the Name Allah

Throughout this website, I use the name Allah when speaking of God. My use of this name is not intended to isolate, exclude, or disrespect anyone. It is simply the name I use when speaking of the One whom I worship, love, and depend upon.

For me, the English word *God* does not fully convey the depth and precision of my understanding of the Divine. When I say *Allah*, I mean The One—absolute and indivisible, without equal, partner, or likeness. He cannot be increased, diminished, divided, or compared. He is the Creator and Sustainer from whom all creation comes into being and upon whom all creation depends.

I understand Allah to be the comprehensive Divine Name—a Name that points to the fullness of His perfect attributes and gathers within it the meanings reflected in His Beautiful Names: the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, the All-Wise, the Most Gentle/the Subtle One, the Creator, the Protector, the Source of Peace, and many more.

For this reason, I use the name Allah with intention, reverence, and love. It is an expression of the faith that shapes Qurrah and my understanding that true healing comes only from Him. It is not a boundary around who is worthy of care. Every woman who enters Qurrah is to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.
